Avenues Recovery Center located between New Orleans and Covington is truly a one of a kind facility. We offer multiple levels of care to support clients in various stages of addiction recovery. Our primary focus is on our extended care program, rebuilding clients throughout the stages, from helplessness through stability. At Avenues, we treat the whole person – body, mind, and spirit, you will receive personalized care in a clean, modern, home-like setting.
Life skills, wellness, nutrition, social acceptance, financial responsibilities, and family values are all key components of our treatment plans. As our clients progress so does the individualized care. The extended care goal is to begin employment by day while continuing therapy sessions in the evenings, a true rebuild transition to get your life back on track.

The Avenues Recovery team is acutely qualified for the most at risk and vulnerable, staffed with a full-time physician, psychiatrist, and licensed counselors. Our Medical Director takes great pride in her ability to customize care plans from the complex to the beginner, and include Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) like Vivitrol and Subutex in our treatment methodology. Our case managers will address any legal, family, or FMLA complications, and most of all focus on workforce reentry.
The one-word describing Avenues Recovery is “Family” a complete family feel among peers, family appropriate quality of clinical care, family style housing and meals, and family involvement and satisfaction throughout.
Avenues Recovery Center offers a unique arrangement within our residence. Our 48-bed facility incorporates 10 converted luxury townhomes surrounding the treatment center, each with semi private rooms, kitchens, and living rooms, decreasing the institutionalized feel of entering treatment. Residential treatment offers the opportunity to engage clinical and medical treatment while residing out of familiar surroundings and potentially unstable environments. In addition, Avenues maintains stepdown sober apartments for clients post treatment that want to continue living within their support system. The residences, with their rustic feel, offer a safe, private, and holistic environment steeped in the principals of the 12 steps.

Susan Julius, MD, ABAM, ABFM, AAMRO, Medical Director, is a clinician, speaker, and teacher. She is board certified in Family and Addiction Medicine, as well as Physical Therapy, and holds a special degree in urine drug testing analysis. Dr. Julius studied Physical Therapy at Cleveland State University and attended Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, in Cleveland, Ohio. She trained for two years in General Surgery, at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana and completed a Family Practice residency at Ochsner Foundation Hospital, in Jefferson, Louisiana.
Dr. Julius incorporated her background in these areas, along with her understanding of the biology of addiction and her personal journey in recovery, to treat patients and families with this disease for over ten years. She worked at Choices of Louisiana, a Methadone clinic, in La Place, Louisiana and was Medical Director for the City of New Orleans Homeless Clinic, and Townsend Clinic, in Lake Charles and Baton Rouge. Currently, she is the Medical Director at Townsend Recovery Center, in New Orleans.
Dr. Julius has been an expert consultant and keynote speaker for American Addiction Centers and was featured on NBC News, Fox News, Baton Rouge Business Report, and New Orleans Happy Hour Podcast. She worked with the New Orleans Re-entry Program and is active in AA and served on the Local Action Committee for International Doctors in Alcoholics Anonymous. She is a member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, American Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the American Association of Medical Review Officers. She lives in New Orleans with her husband and three dogs, and loves to swim, garden and operate her vacation rental.
Robert R Fezekas II LAC, LCSW Clinical Director has been working in the field of addiction and mental health for over 10 years. His passion for working with those who suffer with substance abuse disorders stems from his own journey of recovery! After completing treatment in 2009 he immediately entered college at Southern University at New Orleans where he graduated with honors with both his bachelor’s of science in Substance Abuse and masters degree in social work. Rob has had various roles throughout his career such as: recovery support staff, counselor, Director of IOP, Director of Social Services, and now Clinical Director here at Avenue’s. He has worked closely with multiple court systems and veterans affairs to customize evidence based programming to best treat their clients. Within his community in St Bernard Parish he works closely with the community leaders to advocate for prevention, treatment,, and recovery resources through a non profit group he helped founded St Bernard Recovery Awareness. Robert believes that every client has the potential to recover and looks forward to working with every client that enters our Avenue’s Facility!
Elizabeth Eure, FNP-C is a native of DeRidder, Louisiana and a resident of Donaldsonville. Liz graduated from Our Lady of the Lake College of Nursing and Allied Health with honors. Her further education includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Loyola University, and a master’s of science in nursing with a specialty in family practice from Louisiana State University.
Liz has 25 years of emergency and urgent care experience and is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She has practiced family medicine since 2010 and opened a private practice in a medically underserved area in Baton Rouge. Her contributions were instrumental in bringing quality healthcare back to the downtown Baton Rouge area. After just two years, she was presented the Louisiana Economic Development Small Business Excellence State Award and the Microbusiness Enterprise Corporation of Ascension Parish small business of the year award.
Liz obtained her Suboxone Waiver in 2018. At the time, she was one of only 10 nurse practitioners in the state of Louisiana to obtain certification. She sold her private practice, began practicing addiction medicine in 2019, and joined the Avenues team in March of 2020.
Liz has 6 daughters, 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Rodney Bowie CAC, CSW, MSW is a native of Jonesboro, LA , currently resides in Laplace, LA. Bowie currently works as a residential counselor for Avenues Recovery has been involved in addiction counseling since 2007. Bowie received his Bachelor of Science in Addictive Behavioral Counseling and Prevention Magna Cum Laude at Southern University at New Orleans. Bowie continued higher education at Southern University at New Orleans obtained Master’s degree from the School of Social with a concentration in Health and Mental Health. Bowie is a Certified Addiction Counselor with the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority Louisiana. Bowie has obtained training in models such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gambling Addiction, Emotional-Focused Therapy He has previously worked for Gateway Foundation, Covington Behavioral, Grace Outreach. He has had the opportunity to receive training through his clinicals at River Oaks, Choices of Laplace, T Johnson & Associates LLC. Bowie is a recent Graduate of Southern University of New Orleans with a Master’s from the School of Social Work , is in the process of becoming a LMSW and LAC.
Derek Daigle, LPC, NCC, is a licensed professional counselor who has worked in the field of addiction since 2016. Since beginning with Avenues in 2018, Derek has taken on multiple roles, including intake coordinator and now residential counselor. Derek obtained his master’s degree in counseling from the University of Holy Cross, and his bachelor’s in psychology from Louisiana State University.
Helga Tone graduated from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Arts in counseling, with specialization in Clinical Mental Health.
Upon completing her schooling, Helga worked in the addiction field for two years. She then moved to the Children’s Bureau as a school counselor in the heart of New Orleans, utilizing TBRI and treating children with severe trauma and maladaptive coping skills.
Helga currently works as a residential treatment counselor for Avenues Recovery and treats clients who struggle with addiction from a trauma informed therapeutic model. The hallmark of her counseling style involves EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Somatic Experience Exercises, and Brene Brown’s research on vulnerability.
While she has learned from many great therapy giants, and has deep respect for existential psychotherapists in particular, Helga found her own voice on implementing approaches developed by others in a way that seeks to honor the unique battle each client must fight.
She strives to help clients find healing by guiding them to listen to the body with compassion and curiosity and integrate their somatic experiences, so that positive cognitions finally ring true, and the body, mind and spirit are truly healed, and free from addiction.
Caroline is a 2018 graduate of Southern University at New Orleans School of Social Work, where she obtained her Master’s degree. In order to receive the MSW she spent a year in clinical internship at Bridge House/Grace House New Orleans and a year at Townsend IOP. She received her LMSW from the State of Louisiana that year as well and went on to work as an admissions counselor/UR specialist at Odyssey House Louisiana for a year. In September 2019 she began working at Avenues Recovery as social worker for the RTP 2 Men. She is currently in supervision to obtain her LCSW license. She is also in process of receiving her Doctorate degree in Human Services from Capella University.
Whitley Ladner has been a Counselor in Training with the Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority since January 2019 and is working towards becoming a Registered Addiction Counselor. She is also in the process of receiving her bachelor’s degree in addiction counseling from the University of Holy Cross.
Whitley began working in the substance abuse field in 2017 and has experience as a behavioral health technician, PSA coordinator, case manager and group facilitator. She is experienced with the recovery dynamics treatment module and step education. Whitley has been living a life of recovery since October 19, 2016. Having obtained sobriety at the age of 25, Whitley prides herself in her passion for helping others struggling with addiction.
